Windows Phone

Have you seen the commercials for the new Windows Phone? They go something like this: "My Windows Phone has these new, live updating tiles that let me see what is happening on Twitter, Xbox Live, and Facebook, all with one look. Then I'm done, so I can get back to ___________."

Basically, they are saying that this phone allows you to get in, look at your stuff, and get out faster so you can do more of what you love. So, what they are saying is "Buy this new phone ... so you can use your phone less." How stupid is that? If you are spending too much time on your phone, go out and get a phone that doesn't have all that extra crap! I could see how a business person might need a phone with a lot of special fast stuff so they can be in touch with members of their company, etc. I can also see how someone who doesn't have the internet at home might could buy a phone with it and have it all there ... however, I think the majority of people in America already have internet capabilities at home, and there is no reason to have that kind of stuff on your phone, which is primarily for calling people. Why, WHY would you ever need to see someone's Twitter post with such urgency that you cannot wait until you get home? Besides, obviously, the people who are already on their phones all the time will not use these fast-updating tiles to finish poking around on sites like that faster ... they are going to become more addicted to checking everything and not participating in real life. I'm not against Facebook, or the internet, or anything like that ... but I don't see how it can be such a big part of someone's life that they have to take it with them everywhere. I'm not even opposed to cool technology like that, it just seems like another way to make people who would prefer a boring, regular phone pay more because nothing comes simple these days.

And, I just think that commercial is dumb since they are saying "buy this phone to use your phone less." Yeah, right, like that's gonna happen.
